Japanese Giant Hornet

Now we’re getting into real monster territory. These things kill 30 or more people a year in Japan alone.

The Japanese or Asian Giant Hornet is like your worst wasp nightmare. It’s the size of your thumb and as fat as a mouse. It can fly fifty miles a day and it can SPRAY A FLESH EATING ENZYME at you – OFTEN STRAIGHT INTO YOUR EYES. And its sting – is both highly toxic and viciously painful. Its spray also carries alarm chemicals that call to its thirty strong colony to join in an attack.

(This flying hell was the model for the Scarlatti Wasp in my book – except that the Scarlatti is way worse, with three stings, the most lethal strain of smallpox ever created, and with the potential to wipe out mankind.)
