Human Bot Fly

There’s a number of bot fly species and each one is adapted for a particular mammal. You get them all over the world, and in parts of Africa there is even a Human Bot Fly.

The mature fly lays its egg on a horse fly or a mosquito or something and these eggs get carried to a human where they drop off on their skin. The eggs hatch and the larvae – THE FLESH EATING MAGGOTS – then burrow down through your skin into your body… and just keep munching and munching away, not tiny things on the surface but HALF INCH LONG – AND JUST AS ROUND – AND THEY’RE BURROWING IN DEEP.

And they eat and eat and eat for weeks and weeks until they feel like turning into flies which is when they tunnel straight back out again.
